How much do Appliance and Refrigeration sub-contractors typically earn?

Apprentices earn $10-$12 per hour
Journyman $12-18
Master HVAC R 18-30 Hr.
night time and a half
Holidays double time
Union jobs chillers $25

Sub-contractor repair technicians in our area are paid a percentage or commission ranging between 40% to 60% We have seen rare instances where technicians are paid 65% or 70% but this is very rare.

"Sears" employee experience and income
Large national and regional companies pay by the hour. Entry level "apprentice" technicians often earn $10.00 Per hour. Full time workers hourly income ranges between $12 to $25/hr plus overtime. Overtime pay is typically "time and a half". Some refrigeration and HVAC service companies may require (some of) their employees to be "on call" during nights and weekends

Former Sears technicians that we interviewed complained about extremely long work days that included a repair quota that they "must" complete each day before they go home 'no matter what'. This is what we were told by some. We can not say if this is factually true!
just an impression and not necessarily factual.
Please keep in mind that these individuals do not represent current employees, only former workers who were unhappy. We can not say what the typical repair employee experience is when working for Sears.

From what was reported to us, there are problems with management with technicians feeling overworked, under appreciated and underpaid: In relation (relative) to the amount of revenue they generate. Our impression from our conversation with a former employee  was that he typically brought in between $1,000-$2,000 on an average day.

We were also told that the stresses of the 'quota' caused some technicians to avoid or "skip" performing repairs that would take a long time to repair, since their work-load quota was not reduced to compensate for the extra time needed. It was said that these unhappy techs mysteriously find that the parts that were provided to them for the lengthy repair were "damaged". If this is true, it is understandable why Sears seems to have a high rate of turnover. And why some former Sears customers are bitter about their sad experiences.

On the positive side: It is our impression that the repair rates are reasonable, perhaps less than what local businesses charge. But we found that most Sears customers that contacted us for repair services were more concerned with having fast reliable service, than with saving a few dollars.
It also appears that people living away from the main service routs wait longer than those living in dense cities. Also, Sears is a large company and the experience of consumers can vary from region to region and between divergent management approaches.

Sears seems to be a good place for technicians to learn the trade. It also offers job security (and many hours on the road).

Sears consumer experience & complaints

Note: Please keep in mind that we typically hear only from unhappy Sears customers! Therefore we do not know what the average Sears appliance repair experience is. The main complaint that we hear about is having to wait a week or two for service and that technicians are late or do not show up at all (at times) and that the consumer was waiting without being notified of the delay or cancellation.

Some 'would be' Sears customers complained that they were encouraged to purchase an insurance policy for the repair over the phone prior to the appointment and diagnostic.

We feel that if the management is aware of these issues then can learn from them. This information can be useful if a company wants to address systemic issues, if they indeed exist. We seek to offer a balanced perspective! If Sears, or anyone else would like us to offer a different perspective we would be more than happy to include it here!

Some national  advertisers sell leads 'per-lead fee': Examples of "fee per lead" companies include "Service Magic" and Yext. These companies often charge for the lead even if the lead never earned you a single dollar and even if a competitor did the job!
