Here I discovered a thing I didn't know: "
Mountain View is one of the major cities that make up Silicon Valley". I would like to believe that this is related to the unique mission, design and goals that this site represents.
Or perhaps it is related to another interesting statistic: I have recently included some general pricing trends in the service industry, and some journalistic features such information about service technician income, Sears service, customer service approaches and a review of consumer behavior trends. I wonder if perhaps a College proefessor teaching a business or economics course gave his/her students an assignment to compare service rates.
As far as the visits from silicone vally, my only guess is that it has to do with the following page about us receiving the letter fromGoogle recognizing our achivement in ranking at the top 1% .
*** *** ***
Another reason why I created this page is to open a dialogue with other webmasters and SEO (search engine optimization) individuals. This is a very perplexing field. I don't know why we rank well under some search terms but not others, while some competitors have better results. For example: When I misspelled the word "Baltimore" when I searched for appliance technicians in this location, I did not find our site on the first two google pages. But my usual competitors were still at the top of the first page. I don't understand why. Did they include misspelled key words? If so, where? I am told not to overload the key word tags, so where are you suposed to optimize for these. A second example is if you substitute the term "service" for "repair" here again the results change. And also, if I place "Baltimore" at the start of the search phrase, my listing moves down, but not for my competitors: Why is this?
I have also created a page that contains
actual search terms, and keyword data from our web analytics that searchers have used to find our site. I hope this could be useful as a case study, and, or informative for web masters and SEO researchers.
It is interesting that the Alexa "visitor stats" data differs significantly from what Google analytics and our web host's analytics have found. The majority of our visitors are new and come from search engines (which is not what alexa has found in Feb 2011)
I truely appreciate your feedback. It is very rewarding to hear from people who visit.
If you have an alternative explanation, I would love to hear from you. Also, if you are visiting this site from Silicon Vally or Redmond Washington (or any of the other top visitor locations) please use the "Contact us" link or "Service Request Form" if the other link is unavailable and please write in the "subject" "Attention Web master"
Best regards,
Mike
